Costa Rican authorities have arrested a woman in connection with the death of 74-year-old American tourist Marc Walter Fleming late last month.
Fleming was found dead on the afternoon of Sunday, Sept. 27 at a condo unit in Playas del Coco, located in Sardinal, Guanacaste, according to a press release earlier this month from the Liberia Regional Office of the Judicial Investigation Department.
Investigators with the department also posted security camera footage on social media showing a woman in a bikini walking to and from a vehicle alongside another woman in a pink dress. Officials alleged the woman in the bikini was suspected of being involved in Fleming’s homicide and asked the public for help identifying her.
Costa Rican authorities alleged that Fleming had “apparently entered a condominium accompanied by the woman in question, who later left the premises,” according to an English translation of the Costa Rican Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ) press release.
“When the man’s body was discovered, it bore head injuries that appeared to have been inflicted by a blunt object,” authorities added.
Fox News reported this week that the woman was arrested on Tuesday, citing information from the OIJ office.
OIJ Deputy Director Vladimir Muñoz reportedly told the outlet that the woman – identified only as “Ortiz” – is alleged to have met Fleming online and later had gone to his condo after he picked her up in his car. At his condo, the two allegedly got into an argument, according to Fox News.
Muñoz reportedly alleged that the suspect then hit Fleming over the head, leading to his death. She is also accused of stealing his bank cards, according to the outlet.
